RBS recently invited David to be part of their ‘Better Everyday’ Conference in London. They had a clear vision of what takeaways they wanted delegates to have but needed a meaningful keynote and a team activity to give their senior leaders the tools to be better everyday.
Over 120 delegates arrived at the organisations bespoke conferencing facility in Bishopsgate. David’s session began with a bespoke keynote presentation, illustrating how a very simple shift in mindset could transform how you work with your colleagues and perform as a business. Delegates were then challenged to use that new mindset in a team building challenge called Give a Hand.
Over the course of an hour each 3 person team worked to collectively build 40 prosthetic hands from scratch, each intricate piece was carefully assembled and connected to form a fully working hand. Initially teams were quiet and reserved and then as they progressed through the build and their hand took shape the excitement and realisation grew. Teams were eager to check their hands over, test the movement and capability and help others who were still working to build their hands. The teams were challenged to work together, solve problems, communicate and collaborate all within a very tight timeframe.
The 40 hands constructed with great care, were packaged in their own personalised case with a message of encouragement from the team who built it. As the room settled to observe their efforts they beamed with pride, overwhelmed by the impact of their creations. Queries quickly came in to run this activity with other teams within the business. David showed how this team effort will transform the lives of countless individuals across the world, the need to build more filled the room.
