David invited to deliver at Annual conference of senior finance industry executives

David at the Ulster Accountant Society

Huge excitement surrounded the announcement that David would be joining the senior delegation of Chartered Accountants for their prestigious annual conference in Edinburgh. As a keynote speaker at the event, David joined Anton Colella, Chief Executive of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and John Mason MSP, Deputy Convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s Finance Committee at an event that answered as many topical questions as it raised.

David said;

“I was hugely honoured to take such a lead role in such a valuable event. Driven by the notion that ‘rising to the challenge’ would become the essential competency of the contemporary financial sector, delegates got straight to work in establishing the key challenges facing their own practices and that of the clients they service.  My role was to lead the agenda of the event by focusing the content and driving the debate before delivering the closing keynote.  By concentrating on some recent research into the challenges of effective decision making in a tough fiscal climate, I was able to deliver some strong take home value that delegates could employ in their own organisation – while also delivering just enough fun and interaction to break cure the ‘death-by-powerpoint’ that can sometimes happen at events.  The organisers should be very proud of pulling together a really exceptional event, and one that I felt lucky to deliver at”.

Of David’s contribution at the event, PwC’s Fergal McCann said:

“As Chairman, I was delighted that you carried out your brief with absolute precision. Your innovation during the conference sessions and linking your own comments and those of our guest speakers to the conference theme “Rising to the Challenge” was truly inspirational. The after dinner presentation was exceptional. The energy in the room was beyond anything I have experienced at a conference. Your interaction and engagement with all delegates, accompanying persons, young and old was magnificent.”

At the event, leading Chartered Accountants have called for members of their profession to play a greater role in meeting the challenge of economic recovery and contributing to civic life.

Delegates at the ‘Rising to the Challenge’ Conference in Edinburgh, organised by Chartered Accountants Ulster Society and supported by Northern Bank, heard leaders of Scotland’s and Northern Ireland’s Chartered Accountancy bodies express their desire to take a stronger role as a positive force for society, both within the business arena and beyond.
